Religious traditions appear homogeneous only to the outside observer. Internally, each tradition has and continues to wrestle with the question of what it means to be faithful to its foundational revelation and scripture. In every age, adherents within each tradition have disagreed on a number of issues of faith and practice. Among the contentious issues of the present day, the panel discussion will explore the dispute over the ordination of gay and lesbian clergy in mainstream Protestantism, divergent views on the role of women, culturally acceptable expressions of the faith, and disagreements over proper religious observance within each religious tradition.
