A Muslim Invitation to Christians
A public letter by 138 prominent Muslim scholars and leaders addressed to all major Christian leaders around the world, published on October 13, 2007.
In response to a controversial lecture by Pope Benedict XVI in 2006, a group of prominent Muslim scholars and leaders from across the religious spectrum drafted a document addressed to the leaders of all major Christian churches and denominations.
A Common Word between Us and You contains an in-depth study of the Christian Scriptures and the Qur’an. Based on their scriptural analysis, its authors conclude that the core of both the Muslim and the Christian tradition consists of the twin commandments to love God and to love the neighbor. They suggest that on the basis of this fundamental agreement, Muslims and Christians can and should engage in fruitful further conversation and cooperation.
